Dam Install and Removal Dates                   for the lower Russian River

2024 DAM NOTIFICATION AS OF 9/3/24:

Vacation Beach - Due to the unfortunate breach occurring last Thursday 9/29 evening, the district was forced to lower the water level asap to prevent further erosion downstream to the adjacent County of Sonoma seasonal Summer Road.

We were able to mobilize crews and secure a crane from Precision Crane onsite at noon the next day.  Removal of spillway timbers that afternoon lowered the water level 3' to 4' upstream. A noticeable reduction in water flow through the breach area and reduced erosion/turbidity was observed.

A decision was made to hold off further timber removal until next Monday 9/9 to allow upstream dock and watercraft owners sufficient time to address this unplanned low water level condition and take action. Upstream water levels should remain constant throughout the week. It is expected that the river will be back to its free-flowing unimpeded state by Tuesday 9/10.

Note: The seasonal Vacation Beach Summer Bridge Road is closed for the season.

Johnson's Beach - Scheduled to start lowering the water level at site slightly Sunday 9/29 afternoon continuing Monday 9/30 and Tuesday 10/1 until the river is unimpeded.

All dates are subject to change, any questions please email or call the District office directly @ 707-869-9184 or rec.park@gmail.com

2024 Dam Notification AS OF 5/3/24:

The Guerneville area Seasonal Summer Dams at Vacation Beach and Johnson's Beach will start impounding water as follows; locations up-river from these dams will experience rise in current river water levels...plan accordingly.

Johnson's Beach - Per our governing permits to hold back water, we are scheduled to start impounding water at site, Saturday 6/15. Complete filling by Monday 6/17 is predicated.

Vacation Beach - Scheduled to start impounding water at site, Tuesday 6/18. Complete filling by Friday 6/21 predicted.

All dates subject to change. Flows at HAC have been dropping and are expected to continue lowering hopefully to the 400cfs needed by District crews to safely enter water during timber installation. With 45 days prior to holding back water, we are currently @ 724cfs at Hacienda Bridge today, 100cfs+ lower than last year at this time.
